Covenant Surgical Partners, headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., is a privately held owner and operator of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), anatomic pathology laboratories, anesthesia entities and physician practices across the country.
Covenant had been utilizing a less specialized ambulatory surgery system across its enterprise. According to Jeff Fisher, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Covenant, “To facilitate growth and set the stage for the future of the company, our leadership team felt it was imperative to have a more robust and efficient system to enable workflow efficiency and allow for more streamlined processes.”
Covenant implemented gMed’s gGastro clinical system in multiple phases starting with all of their gastroenterology centers. The project then extended across all other clinical lines of business as well as a full replacement of their financial billing systems, which is currently in process. This transformation, on track to be completed by July 2016, will ultimately create a standard software platform across more than 55 entities.
“In adopting a new system, it was essential to have standardization and coordination of care across all centers nationwide. With gGastro, we have been able to accomplish that and improve our clinical, operational and financial outcomes,” Jeff Fisher shared.
Specialty-Specific Solutions Enhance Workflow
gMed’s solutions are designed by a team of gastroenterology experts and are customizable to reflect the unique workflow required by Covenant’s ASCs and other clinical organizations. Since gGastro includes both an electronic health record (EHR) system and endoscopy report writer (ERW), it allows for full interoperability between Meaningful Use compliant platforms.
Chris Oubre, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Covenant shares, “Since implementing gGastro, our company has integrated systems and processes across all business lines and clinical functions that complement the workflow of our specialties. gGastro has eliminated duplicate entries and has streamlined our operations. The real-time data that it generates allows our physicians, clinicians and operators to make better decisions which improve patient outcomes and ultimately lead to a healthier business.”
The Future is Bright
gMed’s integrated practice management system, patient engagement platform and data analysis and benchmarking tool offer a complete gastro-specific suite. Covenant plans to continue implementing gMed’s clinical and financial system across its enterprise.
“The relationship with gMed has expanded well beyond software and services. The strategic visions between both companies have proven to be well aligned,” said Chris Oubre. “Our team has such a comfort level that gMed is set to grow and evolve parallel with Covenant’s growth, that not only did we implement the gGastro EHR system, but we’re also going to deploy the practice management suite across our enterprise and utilize the specialty-specific revenue cycle management services.”
Todd Shafer, Vice President of Information Services for Covenant shares, “Being able to implement a truly integrated clinical and revenue cycle management system has always been our goal. With the combination of gMed and Modernizing Medicine’s gastroenterology-specific healthcare technologies, physician partners of Covenant have the tools to navigate through industry changes.”
